Bend it Like Beckham would have to be one of my favorite movies of all time. To give a short summary of the movie it is about a girl who grows up with strick Indian parents who do not permit her to play soccer. But when she meets a girl who introduces her to a semi-pro team she learns how to bend it like Beckham and falls in love. This is one of my favorite movies because it has three main components that make up a good movie. First is sports, second is romance and the third is a good ending.

Have you ever wondered how one can bend a soccer ball? Does it require an Airbender, magic or imagination? A simple answer to these questions is no. The phenomenon of bending a soccer ball can be explained with two concepts in physics; the Mangus effect and Newton 3rd law. The Mangus effect is when a person kicks the side of a soccer ball it causing the ball to spin, and the direction of curvature of the ball is determined by the speed of the ball. Newton's 3rd law can be applied in this situation because "two objects pushing on each other will feel equal and opposite forces", in this situation the as the air pushes in one direction the ball has to move in the other direction. Also, the air on the opposite side of the ball slows down creating pressure and pushing the ball to the opposite side, airflow is very different.
