The mask goes over your mouth and nose

Post created by Nisi and Deona

At the beginning of the year, you were all up in my bubble, but now you can’t. In March, all of our lives changed as we got put into quarantine. COVID-19 was spreading and it reached the US. We soon discovered that to protect yourself from coronavirus we need to become healthier people. To do this, we started disinfecting, sanitizing, washing your hands more often, keeping a social distance of 6 feet  and wearing a mask.

To put on a mask correctly there's a few steps the CDC recommends you follow  to optimize the most out of your mask wearing and for your safety.

  1. Before you put on your mask wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

  2. Grab the mask and put it over your nose then securely tuck it under your chin.

  3. Make sure the mask fits securely on your face.

So, which mask should I use? There are two main types people wear, a medical mask and a cloth mask. Although there have been claims that cloth masks don’t work they are actually  effective masks that the average person should wear and save personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical workers.

You should wear a mask if you're a doctor or doing some type of medical procedure on someone. You should also wear a mask in a global pandemic when the virus can easily be caught through the air. You should wear a mask when you're around strangers or around friends especially when you can’t be 6 feet apart from each other. You don’t have to wear a mask inside your own house but it’s strongly recommended if you do happen to have a visitor come over.

In summary, wearing a mask is one of the new CDC guidelines to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. It goes over both your mouth and nose, it is to be worn when in contact with others both outside and inside. The average person should wear a cloth mask or medical mask. We don’t know when this pandemic will end but we can help each other out by wearing your mask.
